Privacy

This is a small website made by John's family. It collects as little as it can, and it publishes nothing without a person reading it first.

What you send us

When you share a photograph or write in the remembrance book, we keep:

• Your name, so the family know who it came from.
• Your email address, so they can reach you if they need to.
• Anything you chose to write, and any photograph you chose to send.
• Optionally, how you knew John, a city or country, a year and a place.

What becomes public

Once a member of John's family has approved it, your message or photograph may appear publicly on this site, together with your name and — if you gave them — your relationship to John and your city or country.

Your email address is never displayed publicly, is never shared with anyone else, and is not used to send you anything other than a reply from the family if one is needed.

Nothing appears automatically. Every submission waits for approval, and anything not approved is not reachable on this website at all.

Photographs

Photographs are re-saved by the server when they arrive. That process removes the hidden technical information cameras and phones attach to a file — including GPS coordinates — before the photograph is ever shown to anybody.

Technical bits

• We store a one-way scrambled form of the internet address a submission came from. It is used only to stop automated spam, and cannot be turned back into an address.
• This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies and runs no analytics. A single, temporary cookie is used only while you are filling in a form, to keep it secure.
• Fonts are served from this website. Nothing is loaded from a third party.

Changing your mind

If you would like something you shared to be edited or removed, please just ask and it will be taken care of. Reply to the family however you normally reach them.

This memorial exists to remember John Wesley Duewel. It is not a commercial site, and it will never be used as one.
